I did my regular course from ADrplexus Digital Strides, Chennai. One of the best thing about the institute is the co ordinator Dr Arun Kumar who is very much approachable and his strategy classes for central institute exams were very much useful. And your feedback are always given due respect and necessary changes are made. Classes by faculties helped me strengthen my concepts and build strong basics.

Preparation Strategy

What was your study Plan?

I read mainly notes and for some subjects referred to MCQ books and made notes from them and revised them.

How many hours did u study ?

There was no specific number of hours. I used to plan to finish certain topics a day which used to be my target for the day.

Your tips for success ?

Never should you doubt in your abilities. Everyone has their own timeline and it is not wise to compare yours with others.

Perseverance is the most important quality one must possess in PG preparation. Even when you don’t get expected results never retreat. The following quote of Sir Martin Luther King Jr has always inspired me:

“If you can’t fly, then run
If you can’t run, then walk
If you can’t walk, then crawl
But by all means ,keep moving.”

During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?

I always had this problem of being not so confident about my preparation. It was my friend who always believed in me(more than I did myself) and kept me motivated.

How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?

It is highly variable on individual capacity.

When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?

I started preparing in December 2017.

Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?

Yes…I think many of us have this problem. Multiple revisions is important to overcome it. If you read some topic for 6 hrs today it should be revised tomorrow within 1.5 hrs and same should be revised within 45 mins the next day.Make separate notes highly volatile facts separately to be revised randomly everyday for 30 mins.

What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?

Since I cannot read a single subject throughout the day I usually club a long and short subject together. About half of time would be spent on reading notes, one fourth on practising MCQs and remaining for revision of topics of past 2 days.
I don’t think anyone would be able to adhere cent percent with timetable. But spending 15 mins daily at the end of the day for introspection would help you plan better for the upcoming days.

What is your advice to the future aspirants?

* Don’t go for multiple sources of information which most of the times makes you less confident with your preparation. Repeated revision of same material would boost your confidence to precisely mark correct answers.
* Make yourself strong in your basics. Updates and controversies are just add on. Don’t spend too much time on them.
* Group discussions would be of help but shouldn’t exceed 2-3 hrs a day.
*Know your shortcomings and device a practically reasonable schedule for studying. Never do binge reading.

*Frequent mock exams would help you to assess yourself and plan you studies.
*It really doesn’t matter how many hours you study unless it is done efficiently.

Which books did you read for the theory part?

Follow any book which you are comfortable with. But all the things you read should be preferably converted into your handwritten notes into a format which is easier to revise.

What was your strategy for the exam day?

First thing was to finish my exam on time. Since it is usually tiring to travel to Chandigarh its better not read the night before exams and get adequate rest. Presence of mind and calm attitude will always be helpful.

What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with 250 or started from middle of the question paper.

I started with 1st question and went in order and noted questions which I felt difficult to be attempted at last.

Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?

Yes… I did. After May exams I wasn’t able to concentrate and my confidence went low. It was my friend who boosted confidence in me and help me continue with my preparation.

Tips for your Juniors

What was your strategy for NOV PGI 2018?

Frankly speaking I had no specific strategy for PGI exams. I kept revising my notes and wrote 2 mocks conducted by Adrplexus.

HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies

I attempted around 450 -500 options. Number of options to attempt should be individualised by writing mocks.

What are the do’s and don’ts in PGI exam

Do’s : 1.Time is key factor in PGI. Try to finish exam in time.My target was to mark 40-50 questions in 30 mins.
2.Be careful while reading questions to look for double negatives like “all are false except” which essentially means true.
3.Do carry your common sense into exam hall.

Dont’s :
1. Don’t panic if you make a frameshift or marked wrong options.Leave those questions and move on.
2. Limit your educated guess to minimum.

YOUR recommended books for PG PREPARATION

There is no such book I would recommend.
