Preparation Strategy
What was your study Plan?
Read notes completely and pgmee books too for few subjects.
Concentrated on basics. Worked out a lot of mcqs. Had regular mocks.
How many hours did u study ?
Effective study hours was 6-8 in the earlier phase of prep.
In the late stages, 8-10 hours a day
Your tips for success ?
Revision is the single main determinant. Sincere, smart and hard work is all that is needed
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
There wasn’t even a single full week without this doubt.
Actually this doubt gave me a lot of motive to prepare further.
But we should make sure that this isn’t going overboard and spoiling our confidence.
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
It depends on the individual.
Their reading capacity and their target.
But I’d say that one should end each day with a satisfaction of using the day to it’s fullest.
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
After internship after joining Adr.
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
Yes. It’s common for all. Conceptual understanding and revision..
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
I didn’t make daily timetable. Subject wise schedule was made. Like ten days for long and five days for short subjects, including the days of class. It was tough to stick on, for many subjects.
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
Fix your aims, and make tiny progresses. Don’t read beyond our scope. Don’t waste time on online video classes and q.banks which are too critical and not needed for exams. Lectures by our facutlies are enough.
Can take daily tests available online and revise those which will keep us in touch with all subjects.
Don’t sleep in the afternoons, or make it a very short one. Have a regular, continuous and deep sleep in the nights at least 7 hours a day.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
Didn’t go for the books which we read in UG.,which I used only for references.
Read pgmee books which were mostly authored by our faculties.
What was your strategy for the exam day?
Good night sleep
A healthy meal
Avoid last minute panic
Stay calm and focused
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with 250 or started from middle of the question paper.
I did it from 1 to 250.
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
I was down at times but I don’t think that I was really depressed.
Being over concerned and gloomy with affect our capability.
Tips for your Juniors
What was your strategy for NOV PGI 2018?
I didn’t really prepare separately for Pg as neet was my tatget.Which is the biggest mistake, that I could have avoided, so that I’d have got a better rank. Every central institute aspirant should prepare for that one particular exam.
Topics are being repeated with few ditto repeats too
HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies
Maybe around 450.
I was too cautious to not to make any random guesses. Pgi is one exam where you can’t even afford to take calculated risks unlike others as negative responses hurt our markings badly.
Do not waste time on questions that are tricky and time consuming.
Time management is the key as this is the lengthiest exam and that oo we have to mark our omr sheets.
What are the do’s and don’ts in PGI exam
Do’s
- Read the repeat topics of pgi well, the list of which is given by Adr.
- Go through the previous few years q.paper.
- Have a lot of mocks.
- Fill the omr sheet accordingly.
Don’ts
- Don’t guess.
- Finish all the questions on time.
- Avoid frame shifts.
