Preparation Strategy
What was your study Plan?
Reading up most important and repeatedly asked topics. Retrograde approach is better, solve questions first sincerely then read explanation or synopsis. So that thought process gets involved and long term memory. Learning the Harrison tables first to last page was a part of my plan. No need to bother about most difficult and controversial questions.
How many hours did u study ?
10 – 12 hours with good sleep and relaxation.
Your tips for success ?
Somehow your mind knows what you deserve have guts to follow it and don’t compromise for sake of just 6 months.Believe and have faith. Read with determination. Just believe you are going perform very well in examinations, so that you will learn well. Reading 14-15 hours and having doubt about getting seat is just waste of time. Faith do wonders. Trust yourself.
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Sometimes bad thoughts keep popping but ignore it. Yes once or twice I really felt am I going to make it?. But I was happy with the way I was going. So I hid all those negative thought and just focused over positive things. When we believe we are going to make it nothing actually stops us. So always be motivated, stay calm, positive and determined.
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
If it is serious preparation I think 5 months. And now 5 months are there to crack November exams. So time to get focussed.
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
Actually after All India results, I was hoping for good result but my ranking was disappointing. I decided not to compromise and strongly believed I deserve something better. Actually I thought it’s an god given opportunity to crack central institute exams.
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
Volatile memory!! Yes everyone is having problem with it. As syllabus i like ocean!U just need to read it repeatedly and try to memorise and create mnemonics to remember those things.
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
Personally I feel it’s not easy to stick to time table. Yes I had a time table.. but I was modifying it according to my convenience. Whatever it is, make sure that your preparation is going in right way. Don’t waste time and don’t skip important topics. Treat all subjects equally and give time to each and every subject according to its volume.
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
I suggest them to believe everything happens for a reason and purpose( conditions apply). If you are working hard and still not making it, just believe something bigger is waiting for you. Don’t compromise and don’t end up in something which you don’t like. It doesn’t matter when you crack the exam but it matters where you do and what you do. Always be positive and hopeful. work till u get what you want.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
I read ARORA FOR PHYSIO, FORENSIC, ANAESTESIA, PSYCHIATRY, DERMA AND ANAT. PATHO-SPARSH GUPTA. PHARMA-GARG, MICRO-APURB SHASTRY, SURGERY-ASHISH GUPTA, ORTHO-APURV MEHRA, ENT-SHIBU GEORGE, PSM-VIVEK JAIN, MED-MUDITKANNA, PEDIA-ARORA, OBG-PUNITH BHOJANI. It’s just the list of books i used. It doesn’t mean you should refer same books.. all books are good. Read the books which you like…
What was your strategy for the exam day?
Stay calm, don’t argue with anybody, avoid public transport get your own cab and reach peacefully. Presence of mind is very important don’t think about anything else except question and answers. Read questions carefully and search for clues. Don’t be too defensive and over confident. Just do Justice to paper. Don’t have any fixed plans…plan according to question paper. TIME MANAGEMENT is very important factor.
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.
I don’t have any special style. Start from first question, don’t mess up in examination. Read questions carefully. In jipmer only I used to read options first!!! as paper was too lengthy.
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
Failing to get seat in exam is too small thing to make me get depressed.!!! Never ever. Try to see an opportunity in every disappointment. Be strong and positive.
