I took test series of ADrPlexus and gave pgimer mock exams for two months just after completing my internship. The papers help to get familiar with pgi pattern of questions and are very helpful.
Preparation Strategy
What was your study Plan?
I had studied subject wise during internship and made notes of all subjects in which I had highlighted the important topics which helped me to revise important topics later.
How many hours did u study ?
During internship studying was difficult…I could manage four to five hours of devoted study. I completed my internship on march 10th 2015, after which I used to study from 9 in the morning to 11 at night with breaks for tea coffee lunch etc.
Your tips for success ?
There is nothing that a person cannot do if he has the courage and dedication towards his/her goal. All that is needed is patience dedication and hard work
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
Yes many times . even the brightest of students doubt themselves. There is nothing wrong with that. The important thing is to pick yourself up and keep going
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
I had started preparing during internship for pg entrance. So I would say based on basics and concepts and full dedication 1 year is enough.
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
I started studying specifically for pgi and aiims one week after my neet exam around 20th december
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
Two things helped me.. the notes I had made which were short and helped me revise and the pictures I had taken on my cell phone of all important tables. I had around 400 pictures on my cell of many tables.
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
During internship it was difficult to follow any timetable, but I made sure that I did not waste my time and utilized whatever time I got to cover as many topics as possible.
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
The most important factor that brings us and our capabilities down is fear. With proper dedication and sincerity any goal can be achieved we just have to go for it with all the confidence we can gather.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
Two books that every medico must read according to me are Harrison and robbins. They are gold standard for all pg exams. The rest as usual like everyone else reads.
What was your strategy for the exam day?
A good nights sleep a calm mind and a filling breakfast with no last moment confusion.
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.
I started from the beginning to the end .
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
Yes I did undergo multiple phases of depression..my biggest support were my parents. They never ever put any kind of pressure on me and had full confidence in my abilities.
Tips for your Juniors
What was your strategy for MAY 2015?
I had only two months to prepare seriously for pgi, but I made it a point not to make frameshift errors and miss excepts during the exams.
HOW many choices did u attempt ? ROUGH NUMBER. Please detail your strategies
I attempted v few choices which was the mistake I did.. I had marked around 400-450 options. To get a seat I think marking around 480 would be safe.
What are the do’s and don’ts in exam
Do not think that u will have time to come back to a question after the paper u will NOT have time. Do not keep checking the previous questions. Read the questions extremely properly. And do not get tensed. All the best.
