Trust me, i owe a huge part of my success in PGI to them. post NEET i wasn’t studying well and then i came across JIPMER mock exams postal series and enrolled for it and i got 216 and that really gave me some confidence and then decided to enroll for TARGET may pgi course and i secured 50. This is first time i wrote PGI and definitely wouldn’t be possible without their mock tests. also discussion in classes with venkat and rakesh sir helped in understanding things i needed to study and also way to study (like for tables from books) and also wer to take and wer not to take risk in attempting questions
Preparation Strategy
What was your study Plan?
for PGI, i started only after jipmer and APPG in march and i want to get in a central institute (although not sure with this rank now). i took target pgi course in second half of march and just got through with the topics,notes that were taught on that day as much as i could. then i had 25 days for PGI and again planned to revise notes,4 mock tests atleast once by april end.then in may i planned to get through 4 mock tests, last 3 PGI papers from manoj chaudary and some important topics, but i had to take off few days post DNB result . in these 20-25 days,every day i made a point to read med or surgery for 2 hours and pharm or micro for 1 hour. then i revised ortho,biochem and short subjects once before exam
How many hours did u study ?
on avg around 8-10 hours a day but would vary, some days i would do for more than 10 hrs and some days 3-4 hrs was a big thing.
Your tips for success ?
study sincerely for time which you plan to study and don’t try to overdo things
During your preparation, did you ever doubt your ability to succeed in it?
definitely, initially i never thought i could make it but mock exams gave me confidence that i could atleast compete.
How much time do you think one requires for serious preparation for this examination ?
around 7-8 months if starting after internship seriously.
When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
i started after my internship but i strongly say preparation should start in internship or even before and would really be of great help that way.
Did you face the problem of volatile memory? If so, how did you deal with it?
definetly, in last 1-2 months i used to revise pharm or micro atleast 1 hour a day . i made a note of things i used to forget and revised them before exams.
What was your daily timetable during the preparation? Were you able to stick to the timetable strictly?
i used to plan for week rather than daily, i planned for 4-5 days/week and keep 1 day for remaining part and take off for atleast 1 day but still wouldn’t be able to complete many a time. i used to complete important topics that were left off after 4-5 days, on remaining one day first
What is your advice to the future aspirants?
dream big, believe in yourself and enjoy yourself while studying.
Which books did you read for the theory part?
notes that were prepared and given to us in coaching institute which were prepared from standard books.also watched usmle videos in internship which were quite useful.
What was your strategy for the exam day?
i tried attempting each of mock tests in different way like in one i attempted only those which i knew then in another test attempted as many as i could and sticked to one which was suited me better and this wouldn’t have been possible without mock exams for me.also these helped me to understand where to take risk in attempting and where not to.
then i didn’t want to miss on” all excepts” and make a mistake in marking omr but i couldn’t do that and messed with atleast 4-5 questions knowingly which should definetly not be done. just wanted to stay calm and give my best that day.
What was ur style of answering question. Whether you started from question no 1 and ended with last question or started from middle of the question paper.
i answered first 100 then took last 50 and completed rest.i took this tip from venkat kris hna sir when he said said you wouldn’t miss on easy ones if they were at last this way
Did u underwent the phase of depression. How did u overcome it?
yea i went through many a time, especially after my DNB result and then, PGI was an oppurtunity and wanted to give my best
